News at Wrockwardine Wood & Trench Parish Council
Traffic Lights at St. Georges Road/Wrockwardine Wood Way
It was in November 2001 that the Parish Council first wrote to Telford & Wrekin Council expressing concern over the build-up of traffic at St. Georges Road/Wrockwardine Wood Way Junction. (Near to Asda island).
The Parish Council has continued to correspond with the Borough Council over the years urging them to install lights at this increasingly busy junction.
Finally, the Borough Council managed to secure funding and announced in the local media that the lights would be installed in the spring this year.
Unfortunately the programming of the scheme was delayed in the run up to the local elections.
In our most recent correspondence with Telford & Wrekin Council, they have advised that a revised timetable has been agreed and work should now begin this month, with utility companies diverting their equipment before commencement of road widening.
The work is due to be completed around January 2012.
Power of Well-Being
Councillors have recently undergone training to enable the Parish Council to adopt the Power of Well-Being at its next meeting in September. We first adopted the Power of Well-Being in March 2010, however after the elections in May the Council loses its eligibility to use the power until the new council has been trained. Other criteria for eligibility include a minimum of two-thirds of vacancies being filled by election, the council must have a qualified clerk and the council must have a community engagement statement of intent in place. The Council can then pass a resolution stating that it has met the necessary criteria and adopt the power.
The Power of Well Being is the informal name given to the statutory power enabling a local authority to do anything which it considers likely to achieve the promotion or improvement of the economic, social or environmental well-being of their area. An example of a few services that the council would be able to provide with this new power include the provision of health facilities, library services, support schools, open a community shop, affordable housing schemes, provide cycle lanes or build a new war memorial.
Please contact us if you would like more information on the Power of Well-Being.
